If you like unusual flowers and tall plants that are all light and fluffy, then thalictrum is definitely a plant you can have lots of.
Not only is the foliage really delicate and attractive, the flowers are burst into a frothy haze of pale purple pompoms.
This plant is best used if it’s popped in between others, because it hardly takes up any space in the border, so you can shoe-horn loads in. Then come the summer, when you had forgotten they were there, up they flower with a wonderful purple haze of colour.
We prefer the tall variety simply because it is much more spectacular with the flowers 5ft in the air, but it will need a little support to stop it flopping over in a wind, but the plants around it will usually do that for you.
