We all love a raspberry, but the plants and looking after them isn’t quite so much fun! Raspberries need supports, proper pruning (especially summer fruiting canes), bird protection equipment, then you have to pick them – and the plants are prickly.


Raspberries also have an annoying habit of putting new shoots up a couple of feet in some cases away from where you planted them and they can be tricky to dig out.


On the upside, your green credentials for food miles are amazing. You grew and ate them, so far more satisfying than a supermarket punnet and they are much more tasty.


Your decision to grow them then.


We haven’t used them in any of our small garden designs – but we do use lots of other plants that are much better (we think).
