Mallow; Althaea:


These tall plants tend to be showy for only a short period of time, then they look boring.


They are similar to hollyhocks and are susceptible to the same bug attacks. They need staking and guarding against pests, and for the length of time you have flowers, you need to ask whether they are worth a place in a smaller garden.


We haven’t used Mallow in any of our small garden designs – but we do use lots of other plants that are much better (we think).
