These are without doubt the ‘McDonalds Restaurants’ for the aphid world!
Admittedly a drift of lupins in a garden looks amazing and very pretty – but you are going to have to fight nature with chemicals, staking and much care and attention to achieve that. Or have loads and loads of ladybirds which will eat said aphids. They are also susceptible to powdery mildew and the stems easily rot in over rich soils.
We prefer to use plants in our designs that require a little less effort, but still create a gorgeous garden for you to enjoy.
We haven’t used Lupins in any of our small garden designs – but we do use lots of other plants that are much better (we think).
