There are nice gladi’s and horrid gladi’s.
Some plants have become so overbred with huge flowers that unfortunately, they have become so top heavy they droop under their own weight. Which means you have to stake them and tie them in carefully to create any kind of display. These gladioli are also generally pretty susceptible to bug attack too, so they aren’t really low maintenance plants!
However, there are some really nice varieties that make lovely garden plants – that won’t require oodles of gardening time to get them looking good. So funnily enough, they are the ones we have used in our designs!
We would use G. callianthus, G. communis byzanntinus or G. carneus for more care free gladioli gardening.
