Fritillaria Meleagris; Snake’s-Head Fritillary:
How nature managed to come up with a chequer-board of a flower goodness only knows, but they are one of the prettiest early spring flowers you can get. These are planted as bulbs in a semi shaded damp place and then don’t disturb them again.
In spring, up pop thin grass like stems, followed by these nodding bell shaped flowers. As they take up about as much space as a pencil, you can plant lots and lots of them!
We’ve popped them in our design Soggy Bottoms.
