Monarda Didyma

Monarda Didyma; Bergamot:

Bee Balm or Monarda can get to about 5ft wide, and in moist soil it can become a bit of a thug.

In dry soil it sulks and can get covered in mildew, it is though a great plant for butterflies and bees, but by definition not a great plant in a small space or if you want lower maintenance!

Much as we love to use plants in our designs that are fantastic for pollinating insects, Monarda may just be a little too problematic unless you are an avid plantaholic and love tending your garden.

We haven’t used this in any of our small garden designs – but we do use lots of other plants that are much better (we think).

Why don’t you take a look
